The BLOCK D is used to put the lunar complex into orbit and to brake the LK lunar module up to 4000 m above the ground. The structural fairing holds the two vessels attached during the journey. One of the cosmonauts had to enter the LK from the outside, assisted by a pole. The fairing had to come off to free the LK from the LOK.
